Sometimes you just have to pat yourself on the back. Some overdo it, and a lot of people don't do it at all or at the right time. A good LinkedIn Profile should serve as a kind of resume that makes it clear what a person is capable of doing. The primary difference between LinkedIn and a job board is that a person is not necessarily applying for a 9 to 5 job.
Employment can involve selling some type of completed project or procuring business to produce some new widget for a customer. The end result is to boost your stock and make yourself more attractive so people will want to hire you for whatever talents, knowledge, and skills you possess.
How to Present Yourself in a LinkedIn Profile
One of the most important factors necessary in any type of writing is making the material readable and interesting. You need to let people know what you can do, but it shouldn't read like a grocery list. Your summary should be engaging and the content should follow suit.
You may not be able to write so it flows like poetry, but it still must interest and bring a desire from the reader to learn more. Because LinkedIn is not a categorized type social media, most profiles don't present a person as being in a particular line of work, but more in a broader range so that there is flexibility and focus. In other words, you don't say you fall into a specific niche, but you are capable of many things within a generalized field.
While not bragging, you want the reader to feel a need to ask your advice, seek your assistance, and perceive that you have the qualities you are trying to relate. Read your finished LinkedIn Profile version over several times aloud to be sure you believe it good enough for publication.
Don't Disguise the Facts
If you were the CEO of a major company, you wouldn't think twice about proclaiming that to a national audience. If you are an employee in a small company or you are the whole corporation rolled into one person, you should still let that be understood. You do not have anything to be ashamed of if you work for yourself, as long as you represent yourself clearly and honestly.
Magnify the positive things about what you do, but don't stop there. Be sure that you haven't limited yourself to what you have done in the past, and make it evident that there are many things you strongly want to do and are capable of.
Recommendations by Others
Back up what you say about yourself by using the recommendations of people you have worked for and/or who know you. Never feel that it is asking too much for a good word from a satisfied customer, but don't suggest that anyone just repeat words you have told them to say about you.
Effective Linkedin Marketing is based on having a good profile
